Notes from Adriene:

Last night I went to the movies and somehow ended up eating spring rolls, popcorn, and m&ms… for dinner.

And it was awesome.

Ok, ok, I had some french fries and brussel sprouts too.

And it was awesome.

Joyful even.

I enjoyed myself.

In college, I had a great opportunity to work with some of the top actors, directors, and writers of American Theatre. (Still very blessed to know most of them today!) I was a young ambitious performer who believed in discipline – and I wanted to be the best.

But I often would work harder than anyone else only to feel like I was not being appreciated or that the rewards were not coming fast enough.

Then I started hearing this, “Find the joy, Adriene!”

Literally. Shouted to me in training.

I was doing it right, I was working HARD physically – but I kept hearing, “Where is the joy, Mishler?”

Eventually, I had a one-on-one that I will never forget.

My mentor asked me to forget the training.

“You’re good. You know what you’re doing, now find the JOY.”

It took me a long time to allow the joy to come to training with me. It was rigorous both mentally and physically. However, once I gave myself permission to enjoy my hard work, my moment, the timing of the universe, I was truly unstoppable!

In public class, it is easier to ride the energy of the room and experience joy.

Today, I invite you to find the JOY in your home practice.

Again, it’s not what you do but how you approach it, how you transition, and how you allow yourself to experience it.

Live in it.

That is all.

Day 21 benefits the internal organs with movement and massage. It supports the joints and invites you to strengthen all major muscle groups. Focus on alignment and action as you continue to build strength and grow your practice. Strong focus on sensation over shape. Strong focus on pranayama/breath continues in today’s Day 21 yoga practice. Stay true to your breath.
